This class will focus on floor and standing exercises, as well as
improvisation structures, with an emphasis on connecting breath and
movement. We will approach movement with an inquiring, non-judgmental mind,
with the goal of finding new sensations of awareness in our individual
physicality.

Come, explore, sweat, move.

TAISHA PAGGETT’s movement background and teaching is inspired by a number of
influential post-modern dance choreographers and teachers whom she's worked
with over the years, most recently Maria Gillespie and Cheng-Chieh Yu, as
well as the practices of yoga, contact improvisation and studies on the
history of somatic education. She received her yoga teaching certification
in the classical ashtanga tradition through the Mount Madonna school. She's
currently in the dance projects of David Rousseve, Victoria Marks and is
part of the art action collective Ultra-red. She is also co-instigator of
the dance journal project, itch. myspace.com/taishapaggett

Ecstatic Ritual with Banafsheh

Ecstatic Ritual with Banafsheh

Delve into peaceful flow and ecstatic movement with sema, or "deep listening",
the ancient practice of Sufi masters ,a moving meditation to dissolve
the illusion of separateness. Guided by Rumis poetry, our warm-up
leads us to a fine-tuning: correct alignment, a fluid spine and
sensing our chakras, allowing a flow of light/chi. We then engage in
sema in various manifestations from high energy to deep calm:
Whirling, Reverential Bowing, Zikr (chanting), Shaking and Waves.
Bring SOFT SHOES or SOCKS.
